Best spark plugs for GMC Sierra/Yukon

NGK Iridium IX

our-pick
Our rating:
5.0

Iridium IX spark plugs are designed specifically for performance enthusiasts. Just in case you don't know, iridium lowers the power requirements for spark, which allows a brighter and stronger spark from your existing ignition system.

I will say that acceleration feels smoother and indeed it even feels faster.

Iridium IX`s two-stepped center electrode creates a micro-discharge in the tiny air gap between the center electrode and ceramic insulator nose. This actively burns carbon deposits as they form, stopping any leakage paths for the current to take, so you can forget about "carbon fouling".

Iridium IX spark plugs improve throttle response and our antifouling, so they deliver outstanding acceleration, high fuel efficiency and increased durability. The iridium alloy has an extremely high melting point, which is perfect for your GMC. The pure alumina silicate ceramics insulator provides you with superior strength and better heat transfer.

Key features:

  • improves fuel economy
  • iridium tip for a constant stable spark
  • pack of 6

Product score:

  • performance (9/10)
  • quality (9/10)
  • price (8/10)

TOTAL SCORE: 8.7

Pros
  • pre-gapped
  • price/quality
  • high performance
Cons
  • gap on some plugs is way off

ACDelco

runner-up
Our rating:
4.0

The latest spark plug technology is said to be more efficient compared to conventional and copper plugs. The platinum component of this product guarantees excellent durability. Among metals platinum is one of the greatest strengths and wear resistance, guaranteeing excellent durability.

This metal provides smoother performance and better engine idle stability. Platinum allows a more efficient and smaller electrode design, which greatly quickens motor acceleration and improves cold starts. The fine wire electrode burns away carbon deposits that accumulates on the tip of the spark plug and improve fuel ignition.

Another outstanding feature of this spark plug is the single suppressor seal which blocks the impact of radio frequencies that can affect the electronic components of your vehicle. The suppressor seal meters seals the product against combustion leakage and lengthens its lifespan.

Key features:

  • the ribless insulator
  • reduced sparking voltage & greater corrosion protection
  • tapered center wire electrode with a platinum pad

Product score:

  • performance (7/10)
  • quality (8/10)
  • price (7/10)

TOTAL SCORE: 7.3

Pros
  • helps improve the firing efficiency
  • reduce radio frequency interference
  • smooth engine work
Cons
  • not pre-gapped

Denso Platinum

budget
Our rating:
3.0

Whilst iridium is overall the best material to look for in the spark plug, it's also very expensive. So, platinum constructed plugs are not a million away in terms of quality and lifespan and this model from Denso is one of the best options on the market right now.

It's not going to have a noticeable effect on performance in a normal car in regular driving conditions.

It employs a dual platform construction with a platinum disc and platinum electrode tip. The electrode itself has a width of 11 millimeters which is a little thicker than you'll find truly premium plugs.

Purified alumina powder insulator provides exceptional dielectric strength and thermal conductivity allowing the material to stand up to extreme stress.

Key features:

  • copper center electrode core
  • platinum center electrode tip
  • nickel ground electrode core

Product score:

  • performance (7/10)
  • quality (7/10)
  • price (7/10)

TOTAL SCORE: 7

Pros
  • faster starts
  • improved fuel economy
  • enhanced flame propagation for increased engine efficiency
Cons
  • no performance improvements

Bosch Platinum

premium
Our rating:
5.0

A four-year satisfaction guarantee from a renowned manufacturer Bosch Platinum's assured drivers of consistent driving performance for a long time to come because their tips are built to last almost twice as long as the standard copper style they feature a tapered ground electrode and a laser fused construction plus they're pretty cheap for a precious metal option

Also, a huge plus at these spark plugs never needs to be gapped, making them extremely service friendly.

The key to actual performance lies in its innovative design. Traditional spark plugs feature a single electrode and cap design, but the Bosch spark plug utilized for eritrean enhanced electrodes. This advanced design gives these spark plugs outstanding performance and efficiency without having to rely on a more expensive material like iridium.

Key features:

  • 4-year guarantee
  • platinum center electrode tip
  • nickel-yttrium ground electrode core

Best spark plugs for GMC Sierra/Yukon Buying Guide

The number, shape and location of the electrodes. Two or more?

Several electrodes are a kind of insurance against non-ignition: during the operation of the spark plug, the discharge will pass between the closest pair of electrodes. And, of course, at the same time they will gradually degrade (oxidize, burn out). In the presence of one mass electrode, the plug must be calibrated periodically, establishing a normal spark gap. But several electrodes become a more reliable guarantee of ignition: when one fails, the next continues to function.

Contrary to popular belief, four electrodes will not produce four sparks instead of one, but will quadruple the reliability of the spark plug, even with a depleted life.

For the same purpose, V-shaped or U-shaped cuts are made on the electrodes: a discharge on one side of the electrode increases its service life.

One more thing to know. The smaller the distance between the electrodes, the easier the discharge passes, which means that less energy is needed to create a spark. It would seem that setting a smaller gap and saving battery life is the right decision.

But the task of the candle is to set the fuel mixture on fire so that the combustion volume is maximum, and for this we need ... a larger spark gap, giving more space for ignition and a more powerful spark. So, don`t forget to check the gap for a fit in your engine.

Conclusion

Even small violations and malfunctions on the spark plugs can lead to serious failures in the operation of the car if it`s owner is deceitful. It is worth knowing that any driver can do a check of this item.

And if your spark plugs are actually worn out, then I tried to pick the best of the best for your replacement, so you won't regret this choice.
